If taking on a huge home improvement task seems a bit daunting to you, a lick of paint could be a great alternative.
You could make your property look completely different by making some simple changes with a paintbrush and roller and best of all, it’s not even likely to be too expensive.
Before you start a new project around the house, there are some things you should bear in mind, from help if you’re trying to be more creative to planning everything fully – just click here to find out more.
Once you’ve read the dos and don’ts of home improvement, it’s time to get down to business.
The first thing you’ll need to do is decide on a new colour scheme for your home. This obviously depends partly on the room you’re planning to update – aubergine bathrooms may look good, but the colour could be a bit too heavy painted all over a living space.
And, of course, it is also dependent upon your family’s individual tastes and preferences. If you think choosing paint colours is likely to result in a full-blown row taking place in your local home improvement store, perhaps it might be worth limiting the number of people you take with you to make that decision in the first place!
After you’ve chosen the right hue, it’s time to get down to business. If you’ve got wallpaper around your house, you’ll need to strip all of that off first, before using primer to create a smooth surface. You’d be wise to use primer on a painted surface as well, just so you start off with a light-coloured base to work on.
Then, you’ll need to choose some good brushes and rollers and start painting. Use masking tape to mark out parts of the wall you don’t want to get paint on and use brushes for the tricky bits and a roller on the bigger surfaces, which require an even coat across them.
You can be as adventurous as you want remember – either go for one colour all over or experiment a bit more and add some borders or patterns – the possibilities are endless.
